Massage therapy, helps our customers cope with the cost of living crisis.

Updated: Nov 5, 2023

Is the cost of living crisis going to have as significant an effect on mental health as Covid? See how massage therapy can help.

I was reading an article on the Mental Health Foundations website and wanted to share it with my customers.

we expect that the effects of the cost-of-living crisis on public mental health will be on a scale similar to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our survey also found that concerns about finances are having a negative effect on people’s ability to engage in some of the activities known to help protect mental health and prevent problems from developing.

  • 23% meet with friends less often

  • 15% pursued a hobby less often

  • 30% of adults in the UK have poorer quality sleep

  • 12% exercise less

Due to the cost-of-living crisis, poverty and financial stress will likely rise over the next few years. We are seeing increased reports across the UK that more people are going without basic living essentials, such as food and a warm home. Their UK-wide survey has also shown that more and more people across the country are feeling stressed, hopeless and anxious due to their current financial situation.

  • 10% more feeling hopeless

  • 34% more feel Anxious

  • 29% more feel stressed

But don't worry massage therapy can help!

Depression is a mental health disorder associated with hopelessness, worthlessness, and sadness. Anxiety is characterized by nervousness, unease and worry. It is an umbrella term for many mental health disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and many others. One form of treatment that can help individuals cope with the symptoms of anxiety and depression is massage.

Massage therapy addresses the soft tissues in the body to promote relaxation, decrease pain and improve bodily functions. This is a therapy that has been used through the ages to strengthen the body, mind, and soul. In today’s modern world, many people turn to massage therapy to help them become more relaxed and less anxious.

Many of my clients at De-Stress benefited, they felt that it enabled them to put aside their fears, negative thoughts, and worries by becoming fully relaxed. In today’s busy world, this is a therapeutic treatment for anybody, but it is beneficial for those suffering from anxiety, depression, or a combination of both.
